How to find the right hydraulic main pump for your excavators?

How to choose the right hydraulic pump to replace an old one in your excavator? Usually it is a difficult task for the excavator owners.
What is a hydraulic pump and how does it work on the excavator?
Excavators are heavy-duty machines that widely applied to construction machinery, mining machinery, earth-movers, and other industries to dig and move large amounts of earth and other material.
Choosing the right hydraulic pump is essential to ensure the excavator’s performance and efficiency.
The excavator’s hydraulic pump is the heart of the hydraulic system of the excavator.
The hydraulic pump is responsible for providing the necessary flow and pressure of the hydraulic fluid to the motors and cylinders.
Hydraulic pumps also transfer liquids through hydraulic pipes and hoses.
They essentially convert mechanical power into hydraulic energy, and this creates fluid movement and produces flow by moving hydraulic fluid from one point to another.
Different types of hydraulic pump
There are many types of hydraulic pump available. Your choice depend on the intended application and output required.
Normally, there are three types of hydraulic pumps that used most: gear pumps, piston pumps, and vane pumps.
- Gear Pumps are simple and strong, consisting of two gears meshing together to create flow with respect to fluid in liquid form.
Gear pumps earn a reputation for being dependable, and they are mostly applied where constant flow rates have to be maintained.
- Piston Pumps: Such pumps have been made efficient enough through their adaptability, involving a series of pistons moving inside out to create pressure.
Piston pumps able to hold higher ranges than gear ones work excellently at hard labor but appear more complex and require more support services.
- Vane Pumps: Those that use sliding vanes set within a rotor offer smoothness when transferring fluids.
Vane pumps tend to be flexible, having variable displacement options that make them ideal for various purpose applications needing different power levels. However, they may not reach piston pump’s pressure levels.
Uses of hydraulic pumps
Hydraulic pumps are widely applied to the construction machinery, mining machinery, industrial equipment, marine, and agricultural machinery.
In the construction machinery field, hydraulic pumps are an integral part of heavy machinery as they provide the power needed for digging, lifting and pushing in excavators, loaders and bulldozers.
For example, the Kawasaki K3V series pumps and Rexroth A10VSO series are two of the most popular type commonly used in excavators and other heavy-duty machinery.
The pumps are known for high performance and efficiency. They are able to generate high pressures, which is much higher than other types of pumps. And this high-pressure capability makes them suitable for working in extreme conditions in a range of applications.
How to find the right hydraulic pump for your excavators?
It is common to find the part number from the excavator parts book, then purchase the genuine hydraulic pump to ensure you get the correct one.
However, this way will cost you a lot, as the original part is very expensive to afford.
Now, we offer you some tips to help you find the right hydraulic pump at a lower cost.
- The most important step:Find the model, part number, and series number on your hydraulic pump’s nameplate. Then that information will be used to find the right hydraulic pump at a lower cost.
Usually the excavator makers get the hydraulic from other hydraulic pump makers.
There are many hydraulic pump makers, such as Rexroth, Uchida, Kawasaki, Kayaba(KYB), Nachi, Sauer, Linde, Parker, Eaton, and so on.
Some of these pumps will be sold to excavator manufacturers, such as Komatsu, Hitachi, Caterpillar, JCB, and so on. Others will be sold in their own markets.
Pumps sold to excavator manufacturers get renamed part numbers and are resold at a relatively high price to customers. In other words, we can locate the source manufacturer with a nameplate of hydraulic pumps if you would like to purchase them and save a lot of cost. Almost half the price of JCB genuine.
For example, Kawasaki company produced the K3V112DT pump, which was supplied to JCB company. As a result, JCB fit this pump on a JS220 excavator and make a JCB part number on the pump. If you order the pump from JCB company, it usually quite expensive. But if you search K3V112DT hydraulic pump, you will find it with much a lower price on other suppliers.
